Bug Description

This is an Oneiric-specific display bug, originally reported upstream at http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/3932 :

1. Open any photo in full-window mode.

2. Open any editing tool (such as Crop).

3. Move or resize the main Shotwell window.

The editing tool window will appear garbaged: it will move along with the main window but will not refresh properly.

This is an issue with compiz it seems as it happens with or without Unity plugin enabled.

Oh btw I checked a bit on the refresh issue you showed me during the summit (the one with your special overlay toolbars not getting refreshed properly). There is a compiz bug there but the way you display those seem suboptimal, under gnome-shell or unity-2d the bar is refreshed but it seems to happen for each move event, dragging shotwell across the screen creates a lot of flickering and slowness), we will take care of the compiz refresh issue but you might want to look at doing things differently in shotwell as well.

This appears to be fixed in Oneiric Beta 1. Specifically, the tool window doesn't move at all with the Shotwell window until the user releases the mouse button. I'm marking this as closed on our end (although we do plan on fixing the flicker problem at some point: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/4095

However, this fix has introduced another problem, which I've ticketed at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/840040
