Bug Description

This bug report concerns shotwell 0.18.1 and earlier on Ubuntu 14.04.

Whenever I start shotwell, it spends ~1 minute writing metadata to files, and during this time the program is unusable. I am attaching a debug log. Please let me know if you need any further information.

I also have this bug with shotwell 0.22.0 on Ubuntu 15.04. That is quite annoying.

Still there with Ubuntu 16.04 and Shotwell 0.23.2 (from a PPA). In my case it takes over half an hour before I can use the program.
