Bug Description

The default /etc/shorewall6/shorewall6.conf defines the netfilter log location on line 31: LOGFILE=/var/log/messages

/var/log/messages was removed from /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf in natty, as the same information was being logged to /var/log/syslog. See changelog: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rsyslog/4.6.4-2ubuntu4

Any shorewall6 command requiring netfilter logs, on a new install post-natty, fails as such:

# shorewall6 dump
LOGFILE (/var/log/messages) does not exist!
