Bug Description

addgroup: `/usr/sbin/groupadd -g 1058 'fileserver_system_server_vserver_win_unsafe_m' returned error code 3. Exiting.

When adding a group that has a longer name than 32 chars addgroup gives a error and no group is created. For a modern OS 32 chars is a bit low for logical group names.

Description: Ubuntu 8.04.2
Release: 8.04
Linux fileserver 2.6.24-23-server #1 SMP Mon Jan 26 01:36:05 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in passwd which provides groupadd.

I've tested this on both the Jackalope and Intrepid Ibex and in both cases I receive the following error message:

groupadd: fileserver_system_server_vserver_win is not a valid group name
