Bug Description

When I try to reply to post #25 on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1828629&page=3, my SeaMonkey v2.0.13 crashes, and I have to reopen it and reply yes to the 'Would you like to restore your session' page that comes up. The same thing happens repeatedly and the only way I can reply is to change over to Firefox. The same kind of total crash also happens on Googlemail when I try to reply to an e-mail. I don't think the websites are faulty because I have been using them on Firefox on this same new netbook without any problem and also regularly on an older laptop with SeaMonkey v2.0.13 similarly without any problem. I am only experiencing this problem on my new Acer AspireOne 522 netbook on a brand new installation of SeaMonkey that I have just upgraded to v2.0.13. I don't know what's causing this, but one possibility is a graphics driver incompatibility when using this netbook on Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal. I am currently researching to try to find specific Natty drivers for this new netbook, but at the moment am still operating on Natty's default driver set. Having said that though, I'm not experiencing this problem at all on Firefox 6 Mozilla Firefox for Ubuntu canonical 1.0 that's installed on the same netbook, so there's an issue that's SeaMonkey-specific here.

PS: I'm confused by the "In what package did you find this bug" question in this Apport submission form. I pressed the green (Choose) and found the package "seamonkey-2.0-browser listed and selected that, but when I try to submit this bug with that selection, I get "There is 1 error" and it reports "seamonkey-2.0-browser" does not exist in Ubuntu. Please choose a different package. If you're unsure, please select "I don't know". Since I'm unable to submit this bug report with the correct information about the package, I have no option except to lie and select "I don't know"

The more web browsing I try with SeaMonkey, the more crash instances I'm discovering. Now I'm finding that simply opening an e-mail in Googlemail causes a crash. It's happening so much that although SeaMonkey has been my favourite browser and mail client on my old laptop, I can't really use it on my new netbook until a cure for this crashing is found.

I have solved this issue with the help of Mozillazine SeaMonkey Support. Full details at

where you will see I've made some recommendations about documentary changes to alert others to the hazard I fell victim to. Both SeaMonkey versions 2.0.13 and 2.3.1 were involved here, and the problem basically arose because upgrading did not include removing the old files first.
I hope this bug report will act as a trigger to make some warning additions to the installation instructions that come with seamonkey -2.3.1.tar.bz2 and any future versions.
