Do you maybe use Noscript extension?
Noscript usually disables javascript on non-approved pages and that is what
those web pages with addons rely on.

Please clarify where (on on what page) button for installing addons is not working?
On addons.mozilla.org or inside Seamonkey itself during *.xpi addon install?

Also, note that there is a certain Timeout ofter star *.xpi addon install and "install"
button in greyed for 5-6 seconds as security measure, so you shoud wait for shat few
seconds, before being able to click `Install`.

Did you go to Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Software Installation and checkmark "Allow web sites to install extensions and updates"? You can fine tune this option by allowing only certain sites to install plugins.

And which plugins are you trying to install (from which websites)?

Not sure if you know this or not, but most Firefox plugins don't work in Seamonkey. They haven't worked in any release, really, since the big Mozilla Suite/Firefox split, like 7 years ago.

Supposedly these work:

Of course, you can install flashplugin-nonfree out of the repositories.

And I haven't tried it on Ubuntu, yet, but I did have luck installing DownThemAll in Seamonkey, back when I was running Windows.
