I've ran the program and also seahorse-tool under bash with no output coming back to examine.
I can't find any logs from the program either.

I confirm that in Ubuntu 14.10. Encrypting via seahorse-tool doesn't work exactly like described above.

Just tested it in Mint 17 (based on Ubuntu 14.04), the same version of seahorse-tool encrypts files just fine.
So the problem might be in the libraries that it uses. The libraries might have been updated in 14.10 and something might have been broken.
