Bug Description

Hi,

I'm using a fresh installation of kubuntu 15.04 on a laptop with an external keyboard.
My system is installed in english but I'm using french keyboards.
When I enter my password in sddm with the laptop internal keyboard it works ok. However, when I use the external keyboard then I have to type the password as if the keyword was a qwerty one. Nothing critical but it is annoying.

Maybe is a bug in the kubuntu installer.
Here there a way to tell sddm that both keyboards are french ones? Does it correlates with locales? or with the kde keyboards layaouts??

Xavier

I have a similar problem on a system with a German installation: keyboard settings in the console and once logged into plasma are German. However, for logging into plasma via sddm I need to enter the password using US layout. Regards. Leo

Same problem, but only when using keyboard from Logitech Unifying USB Receiver, I have to type the password as if it was a qwerty layout, while it's actually French. No problem when using keyboards from other brands, the bug seems related only to the Logitech unifying USB.
And by the way, this bug seems solved in Ubuntu Unity, and gnome GDM, but persists on Ubuntu MATE.

This bug is still present in kubuntu 15.10.
The external keyboard settings are correct in the virtual terminal (crtl+atl+fn).

Same problem on 15.10 with another Logitech Unifying USB French keyboard seen as a US keyboard. I must use it as a US kb for my password and in the terminal (lxterminal and konsole), firefox, and so on.

But this is more complicated : if I plug another Logitech USB classical keyboard (with cord) at the same time, it gets correctly recognized as French (password and so on).

This gets weird : once I use the classical keyboard, the cordless one is seen as French until I log off! I have reproduced this twice.

In case it helps: brand new 15.10, motherboard is Asus Z-170A, Skylake proc.

In Xenial, ssdm has been updated from 0.11.0 to 0.13.0 but this bug is still there.
A workaround (at least) would be appreciated.
Maybe https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/202 also works for the old 0.11 version in 15.04. I have to check.

If there are problems with an external KB it might be different issue. Therefor not marking this as a duplicate of bug 1458220

It may be associated, so just keep an eye on it.
