Bug Description

i'm on ubuntu studio 15.10 64bits, lowlatency, because scribus is not up to date on the lts.
on 15.04, i used to work on scribus-ng, which managed french letters as é è à...
however, on the 15.10, it's impossible to launch scribus-ng or svn
why?
i cannot work any more because the obsolete scribus on ubuntu doesn't allow me to type correctly, i just can't type é è à...
do i have to go back to indesign?

There are two packages, scribus and scribus-ng. UbuntuStudio includes scribus (the stable version) but not scribus-ng (unstable/bleeding edge).... well it used to be. Scribus-ng, once was 1.4.0, but now just points at scribus which is at 1.4.5. It is called a transitional package which means it is still there so that those who had it installed will get the update to the new package. So scribus-ng is deprecated.

It seems rather that the real problem is some language specific things are not set properly. In the settings manager->Language Support, make sure all the French languages you wish to use are installed. In scribus make sure to choose the right language for your project as well. Keyboard settings may also effect this.

I am sorry I am not well versed in language differences. Maybe someone else can check this further if those things don't help.

it used to work on 15.04 with scribus-ng, not on scribus
now it's not working any more
i can't even find scribus-ng in my programs, while i installed scribus-ng
i don't understand how to start it
it cannot be started through a terminal

Please read the reply above, scribus-ng does not exist any more it is just a pointer to scribus. Running scribus from the command line should do the same thing. Scribus-ng was just a way to run scribus 1.4 instead of 1.3, now scribus is all 1.4 (1.4.5 as happens). Again scribus-ng is an empty package that requires scribus be installed. This bug really should be with scribus.

I can type àèìòù, etc just fine. I do use it for Italian stuff where I clearly need accents.

Can you try the ppa:scribus/ppa ? beware files saved with that scribus-ng can't be opened by scribus anymore. there scribus-ng is 1.5.0.

I'm confident this is not really a scribus problem. Does this issue occur with other programs in the same system?

thanks for your answers
i just installed ng through the ppa but 1.5 doesn't work, but it used to work on my last 15.04
the keyboard is in french everywhere, scribus is the only one to refuse éèà etc., while i set up in french in the software itself
