Bug Description

New screens open slowly in 'screen', screen shows error message while new screen is opening.

To reproduce
1) open terminal (Applications:Accessories:Terminal)
2) $ screen
3) Create a new screen ctrl-A C

Should open a new screen immidiately.

But on Dapper with latest updates, waits for a while (1-2 s) and shows error message: "Could not write /var/run/utmp: Interrupted system call".

Changing between screens with ctrl-A space works normally.

Tested with "Screen version 4.00.02 (FAU) 5-Dec-03", Dapper Flight 3 with latest updates, 3004WTMi. Works correctly in 5.10 Breezy Badger.

I can confirm this, running Dapper (I don't know which flight, I clean installed Breezy then dist-upgraded to Dapper).

I can't reproduce this on current Dapper; it works fine for me. Please send strace output demonstrating the problem

I think I know what probably caused this, and it was due to /var/run briefly having screwy permissions; this should have been long fixed.

Tero, if this is still happening for you with an up-to-date dapper install, can you re-open the bug with the strace Matt has asked for.
