Bug Description

After the most recent update. I can no long active the input method in Netbeans. Even if I execute the command:
im-switch -z de_DE.UTF-8 -s scim-bridge
and restart,
does not work.

I'm using German user interface, and sometimes I need to input Chinese.

It's only I can not active the input method in Netbeans 6.1, it works ok anywhere else.
And, if I select English or Chinese user input as I logged in, everything is fine. This happens only when I use German user interface.

So, as a workaround, I now temporarily use English user interface. When this should be fixed, I will be able to use the German interface again.

My environment is something like below:

elgs@elgs-desktop:~$ locale
LANG=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="de_DE.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=
elgs@elgs-desktop:~$ im-switch -l
Your input method setup under de_DE locale as below.

The configuration "/home/elgs/.xinput.d/de_DE" is defined as a link pointing to
scim-bridge
This private configuration supersedes the system wide default.

The system wide default is pointed by "/etc/alternatives/xinput-all_ALL" .
xinput-all_ALL - Status ist auto.
 Link verweist zur Zeit auf default
default - Priorität 10
default-xim - Priorität 0
none - Priorität 0
Gegenwärtig »beste« Version ist default.

The available input method configuration files are:

Could you see if this happens in editors apart from netbeans?

I guess Netbeans uses the XIM protocol.

Please try the following:

edit /etc/scim/global with your favorite text editor and append
de_DE.UTF-8 to /SupportedUnicodeLocales .
I recall that those locales should be separated by space... if that
doesn't work, try a comma.

(This is a known design limitation of scim, it should actually accept
any UTF-8 locale)

No it happens only in Netbeans. All other editors are good.

Is it that you cannot activate the IME? Could this be a dupe of bug 212364 which as far as I understand isa result of Ubuntu applying 20_scim_config.dpatch to scim.

does this ever occur in trusty or later?

There's also been some further work on bugs like this upstream lately. If you are still affected I'd love to hear if the latest upstream can fix this issue.
