Bug Description

After upgrading from Ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10, on login I receive a scim error as follows:
Error found when loading /etc/profile
.
.
.
GTK Panel of SCIM 1.4.17
(scim-panel-gtk:3977): Gdk-CRITICAL**: gdk_screen_get_monitor_at_window: assertion 'GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed
(scim-panel-gtk:3977): Gdk-CRITICAL**: gdk_screen_get_monitor_geometry: assertion 'monitor != NULL' failed
.
.
.

The errors run off the screen. I've tried copying the text, but by the time gnome loads, the copied text appears to have been reset; I can't capture all of it. I've included a picture of my screen below in case the full error report helps.

The only way to continue the login process is to click on the error window, escape out, and then the login process continues.

Disabling scim removes the error, but it also disables my ability to type in Japanese, which I need.

Doing a reinstall of scim using apt did not resolve the problem.

I've never gotten ibus to work, which is why I'm using scim.

I've upgraded three computers now, and all are exhibiting this same error.
