Nautilus doesn't accept keyboard input

Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

I noticed that I was unable to rename a file because Nautilus didn't accept my keyboard input. It won't use "/" to pull up a file path, either. Other keyboard input in Gnome works fine as far as I've seen.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems. http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

1. I logged in to a recently updated machine. I created a new folder.
I tried to type the name of the forlder. Nothing happened.
2. I expected what I typed to be entered into the field for the folder name.
3. Nothing happened. There was no input. Typing in other programs,
however, worked fine. In trying to determine if it was a Nautilus bug
or not, I opened the home folder and typed "/" which normally brings
up a file path box. Nothing happened there, either.

Hope this helps.

What sort of mouse focus do you use? Did you activate the desktop effects or something similar? Does it happen every time you do those actions?

Click to focus, or whatever the default in Ubuntu is. No desktop
effects or any 3D, actually (using an inegrated SIS chipset). And yes,
it still occurs every time. I can't rename anything. I just managed to
pull up the file URL box using "/" though. When I start to type, my
mouse disappears unitl I move it again. The input method is set to "X
Input Method" and can't be changed, either.

I'm running SCIM to switch between Thai, Korean, and English. Could
that have anything to do with it?

Check. Without SCIM running, the behavior is normal.

I have found similar bugs.
When I type any English character with 'shift key' on nautilus, SCIM didn't work anymore.

It still works on the other applications.

Same problem here. Can't type into Nautilus when SCIM is installed. Can't rename files/directories in Nautilus. I am running Gusty with all the updates applied.

As noted here and on the Launchpad bug page, this bug is a duplicate of
another bug.

Please read bug #66104 to see a workaround there. And please send any
reply to that bug instead of this duplicated one.
