Bug Description

If the scim-bridge is used as the default input method, searching in multiple nautilus windows, using the keyboard (in english) doesnt work quite well.

 * open 2 or more nautilus windows
 * searching in them with keyboard input
 * alt+tab for switching the nautilus windows
shortly after doing so, it seams that keyboard input is no longer available for search. Typing in the open window does nothing. But It adds quite well something to the quicksearch, only in the wrong (not active) nautilus window. To resolve the problem, I must switch back to this window, press escape so that the quicksearch closes, and return back to the window I wanted to search.
This is that annoying that i switched back to X input method and stopped to try writing Chinese with my Ubuntu.

i'm having this problem with every nautilus window

to replicate:
in the 'language support' administration program enable 'use input method engines to enter complex characters'. log out and back in. open a nautilus window and try to type something ('videos', for instance) - nothing happens but it is expected for the videos folder to become selected so that i can press enter

i've turned off the input method engine option for the time being but now i can't type japanese in firefox... this is a good example of a papercut and i hope it gets fixed soon

thanks in advance!

my workaround is
 * installing ubuntu karmic
 * using iBus instead of scim

now it works just fine (with iBus)

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should be a small usability issue , in the default Ubuntu 9.10 install , that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of the project.

Scim has been replaced with iBus and is therefore no longer a part of the default installation. Therefore this bug is not a papercut.
For further info about papercuts criteria , pls read > https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as "invalid" ONLY in the papercuts project.

scim-bridge was rewritten from scratch and has moved to the scim package. Please reopen a ticket there if you still experience this problem. You can reference this bug if what you see is similar
