Bug Description

Hi,
In my opinion scidavis is the best free and open source data visualization program out there. Scidavis was available in the Ubuntu repository for 16.04 and 17.10. However, it does not appear to be available in the Ubuntu 18.04LTS repository. This is odd because I did see scidavis the latest version 1.22-1 in Ubuntu launchpad (launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/scidavis/1:1.22-1).
Is there anything I can do to help make scidavis 1.22-1 available in Ubuntu 18.04 repository or is it too late?
Thanks,
Raad Nashmi

Thanks for reporting.

From the package publishing history it looks like it was removed because the package hadn't been ported to QT5, see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/scidavis/+publishinghistory or https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=894581 for more details. (Looks like it was first removed from Debian, and then Ubuntu followed).

So it looks like a QT5-version of scidavis could be readded to the current development version of Ubuntu, and perhaps from there backported to 18.04.

affects: ubuntu → scidavis (Ubuntu)

Dear Hans,
Thanks for getting back to me and troubleshooting. Much appreciated.
I am only a scientist but not a developer. But is there anyway I can help.
Best,

I found that scidavis has started working on QT5 support https://sourceforge.net/p/scidavis/scidavis-feature-requests/101/ , though the main part of that will be "developer activities". Of course, once that is in place, testing the new version will be helpful, and there may also be some process around getting the package re-added to Debian and Ubuntu archives.

You can also try contacting the scidavis project to see if there are other ways you can contribute. :)
