Bug Description

Just bought a CanoScan LiDE 210 flat bed scanner. It's listed as fully supported at the SANE hompeage.
Unfortunately only the following resolution/colour depth settings are working:
- 600 dpi 8 bit colour
- 1200 dpi 8 bit colour
- 1200 dpi 16 bit colour

All other combinations return black pages as the scanner light stays turned off.
The problem seems to be related to this e-mail exchange (please see follow up messages as well):

This scanner is powered by USB. It's likely that your setup is not supplying enough current. Try removing any USB hubs in between, or try it on another piece of hardware.

Thank you Tom, this did the trick.
The Scanner was connected through a USB extension cable, that seems to have an issue at maximum current. Now scanning is working at all resolutions.
-> From my point of view, Bug can be closed.

I solved my Problem:
  * The Lide210 runs now with a different USB 2.0 cable, the one, which has 2 connectors for extra power.
  * I dont know why it needs more power now, I think this is possible if a capacitor gets old, he is not able to
bridge the power consumption of the electric torque.
  * Under Win7 it complains about a locked transport switch, but it was unlockt.
  * The scanner dont run anymore with a normal 2.0 cable.

So Tom Gelinas has more knowledge about the 210 than Canon does.

Many Thanks to all of you !!!

Best Regards

Dietmar
