Bug Description

Hi!

I have an Ubuntu 10.10 server installation (upgraded from 10.04) and saned is causing problems. When started in standalone mode (-a) it always creates 2 processes. One works normally, the other one constantly writes errors to syslog. On my atom machine this behaviour results in appr. 170% CPU load (constantly), making the system almost unusable.

The same bug already existed in 10.04 but seems to be fixed upstream:

https://alioth.debian.org/tracker/?func=detail&atid=410366&aid=312422&group_id=30186

It seems that saned fails to detach from init after startup...

This is similar to my bug #656675 but saned still functions.

Actually it is the same bug, but in your case the second saned process doesn't constantly spam syslog. I've did some more tests and it seems that the syslog-spamming does not always occur on my machine (may be a race condition). As a workaround I wrote a tiny script that kills the second saned process during startup. However, it would be great if the fixed upstream version would be provided as a regular update...

As per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases 10.10 reached EOL on April 10, 2012.

If you have an issue in a supported release (ex. 16.04) please file a new report, and feel free to subscribe me to it.
