Bug Description
SANE crashes on HP ScanJet scanners versions 5XXX C. As debbugs #474706 shows this bugs have been patched last july. But still Ubuntu unstable still has 1.0.19.11ubuntu2.
So I think it would be a good idea to do a major upgrade of libsane and related packages. HP 5XXX C scanners are not usable for Ubuntu folks right now. see also bug #237426.

For completeness, this isn't only a problem for HP models. My Avision AV122 is also affected. As mentioned in the other bug it appears to be a problem with the avision backend.
