There are updated packages in bionic-proposed which may fix this issue; please see bug #1731459. What remains is that somebody who has an affected device tests those packages and confirms that the updated packages address the issue.

So @Jaroslav, it would be great if you could verify the packages in bionic-proposed (see the test case in the description on the other bug).

I can report that the new packages in bionic-proposed work without any problem.
Scanner- canon LiDE 200 on ubuntu 18.04.
