we should probably ask debian to provide a transitional package too

I don't like that we seem to be blocking sane-backends indefinitely because of this bug.

What is the way forward please?

As far as I can see the Debian bugs are all closed - looks like the maintainer isn't pushing on this further. Can we close this bug and let 1.0.27-3.1 migrate?

Jeremy Bicha (jbicha) wrote :

No, see LP: #1804550

I believe we need to add a transitional package for the update to work smoothly.

I haven't worked on this yet because I wanted to take the time to test the situation with and without a proposed transitional package and honestly, it didn't look to me like a very high priority yet.

It's been blocked in disco-proposed for 32 days.

This package is in testing. Why hasn't the sky fallen in in Debian?

Jeremy Bicha (jbicha) wrote :

Debian only had libsane1 in Unstable so Debian's situation is not as serious as Ubuntu's.

This bug was fixed in the package sane-backends - 1.0.27-3.1ubuntu1

sane-backends (1.0.27-3.1ubuntu1) disco; urgency=medium

  * Add libsane1 transitional package (LP: #1802586) (Closes: #913346)
