It's possible that this may have occurred because the installer was unable to stop saned from running before the upgrade. I have had to start saned manually since the upgrade to Vivid because the systemd script is not working.

Is this https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=774941 ? Sounds very much like it except that that bug was fixed in 1.0.24-9. Quite possibly the fix is incomplete when updating from a broken version.

Hi,

I'm the maintainer of sane-backends at Debian.

The release 1.0.25+git20150528 was uploaded from Debian "experimental".

This directory contains packages and tools which are still being developed, and are still in the alpha testing stage. Users shouldn't be using packages from here, because they can be dangerous and harmful even for the most experienced people.
[/Quote]

It is highly incomprehensible that Ubuntu uses a package from this repository for an official release.

Bug report won't expire due to presence of bug watch

Last confirmation of the bug was almost 6 years ago.

60 days have passed without any comment to suggest
this issue is still present in a currently supported
release of Ubuntu.

Comment #5 suggests this issue was fixed some time
ago so closing this one now as "Fix Released".
