Huawei UMTS USB dongle identified as scanner

Bug Description
On an uptodate precise system Huawei USB UMTS dongles are incorrectly identified as scanners. I tried this with two different, albeit very similar dongles.
$ sane-find-scanner |grep -v -e '#' -e ^$
found USB scanner (vendor=0x12d1, product=0x1003) at libusb:001:015
$ lsusb | grep 15
Bus 001 Device 015: ID 12d1:1003 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E220 HSDPA Modem / E230/E270/E870 HSDPA/HSUPA Modem
