Bug Description
for a fujitsu S1500 the recommended sane is 1.0.23 version.
synaptic doesn't propose it.
so I compile the new src.
after unstalling all sane and xsane 1.0.14 via synaptic, I created new deb with sane 1.023 and xsane 0.998.
synaptic says that libsane common must be installed and I got this error message.

Quote " so I compile the new src."
That's great. But it seems you were unaware of how to package and deal with conflicting package choices. This is not a bug in the Ubuntu or Debian package but in your package. Closing as invalid.
