Bug Description

Before the upgrade to 11.04 Samba and system-config-samba worked just fine for sharing with the windows machines on my network. Now, at first this machine did not show up in the workgroup at all. now it shows up but I can't connect. My XP box says that "The parameter is wrong" Whatever that means... I tried un-installing and re-installing Samba and system-config-samba. There was an error. That is how I got to this report...

After the last Samba update, I can see two instances of my computer in the workgroup from my Windows machine. I cannot log into either one though. Files still can't be shared between my Windows machines and my Linux box. My Windows XP box says "The parameter is incorrect" which parameter is that I wonder...

From another Ubuntu box, I see only one instance in the workgroup and I can log into it.

I just removed and re-installed Samba. The second instance of my computer disappeared from the workgroup. However, I still get the same error: "The parameter is incorrect". I cannot log in from Windows XP or 7 but Ubuntu still has no problem.

I notice that when I completely remove Samba, it still remembers my previous shares... How do I get rid of that? What file in my home directory do I delete?

Just replaced /etc/samba/smb.conf with /etc/samba/smb.conf.ucf-dist
This brings back the second instance in the workgroup and still has the same error when I try to log in.

From Ubuntu, the workgroup has only one instance of this computer and I can log into it as well. However, I still see the shares that should have been deleted when I got rid of smb.conf. Where are they hiding? I think that there is some error being introduced with the settings for these shares.

Nautilus!
I just un-shared the shares in Nautilus. The shares disappeared. Ubuntu can still log in. However, Windows still sees two copies and can't log in. Same error

Un-installing and re-installing Samba did nothing again. Windows still sees two instances and can't log in to either one.

Ubuntu has no problem logging in.

Back to square one! ... Any ideas what might be causing this?

Thinking that perhaps I had done something to cause this, I re-installed Ubuntu 11.04.
After the install, I used the "Sharing Options" Feature in Nautilus to install the Samba software and share some folders.
After logging out and back in, the problem persists:

From my XP box I see two copies of this machine in the network machines list.
I cannot log in to either one.
The same error message comes up.

Is there any further information that is needed to diagnose this?
Files? Logs?

Please let me know.
