Each one was 1.4 MB to 2.4 MBytes in smbclient-3.0.31, and are 6 MB to 7.8 MBytes in smbclient-3.6.x

Upstream is stating this was fixed in 4.0.0 and higher via a new build system. There is no currently supported Ubuntu release that ships smbclient older than 4.1, so I'm marking this bug as fix released.
