Bug Description
Binary package hint: samba
When browsing the network through Places -> Network and accessing my local server, I can't see all my Samba shares. It seems I can see only share names that have at most 12 characters in their names. I have the following shares :
- chibadocuments (14 chars)
- chibagames (10 chars)
- chibamusic (10 chars)
- chibapictures (13 chars)
- chibavideos (11 chars)
- downloads (9 chars)
- torrents (8 chars)
When browsing the server, I can't see chibadocuments or chibapictures. If I rename them (e.g. chibapictures -> chibapicture) and restart Samba, they are visible. It seems the limit is 12 chars.
The server uses Ubuntu Karmic (9.10) 32 bits desktop edition, fresh install. My main client uses the same except it is the 64 bits version. I have another client on Windows XP SP3 which sees all the shares with no problem, so I guess it doesn't come from a limitation in the Samba protocol.
Manually connecting to the missing Samba shares through Places -> connect to a server works with no problem.
Not sure if the problem what already present in Jaunty or older as I used different share names before I switched to Karmic, nor if it happens too in KDE, XFCE or other desktop environments.
