I am marking this invalid because you are running intrepid Ibex and this is a common thing that happens in development versions of Ubuntu. Once the latest version of Winbind hits the repositories it should update without any problems.

Changed in samba:
status: New → Invalid

in the meantime update manager refuses to update the rest of the updates
as it keeps returning to this packet that is stuck there and will not
do the rest while it is there and that is my problem
how do I unmark the package for upgrade for the time being ?? tried
several times
but is stuck

Hi Dustin
thanks for the info
but the second line sudo apt-get remove --purge winbind
is not recognized as a command on my computer even if I use the rm
command
and because I was also bitten by the splash bash bug
cannot even login because due to the winbind thing dpkg refuses to do any
of the other upgrades
any help would be appreciated
