Here is what causes the upgrade error:

Setting up samba-common (3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.2) ...
dpkg: error processing samba-common (--configure):
 subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help to improve Ubuntu.

From the error message, you will have been prompted about local modifications to your smb.conf and asked to decide what to do about this. Could you please tell me what option you chose?
