Hi Tracy. Thanks for reporting this issue and helping making Ubuntu better!

Was your setup working properly before the upgrade? Would you mind sharing your configuration files for samba here?

I see the following error in your dpkg logs, which may suggest configuration issues in your setup:

ERROR: The 'security=ADS' mode requires 'realm' parameter to be set!

idmap range not specified for domain '*'
ERROR: Invalid idmap range for domain *!

Server role: ROLE_DOMAIN_MEMBER

Therefore, I am setting this bug as incomplete until we have more information regarding your setup so we can verify if this was not a configuration issue.

Once you provide the requested information, please, set this bug status back to "new".

Hi,

Attached are my samba config files.

Yes the system worked fine before the upgrade.  The upgrade gave a
message about the smb.conf file whether to merge, replace, or keep
existing.  I believe I selected keep existing.  The system is only meant
to be a samba client.

My biggest issue now is that my USB printer doesn't work and it shows
that the system can't communicate with it.

We appreciate any assistance.

Thank you,
Dave.... from Tracy's computer :-)

As Athos noted this error is present in the logs:

ERROR: The 'security=ADS' mode requires 'realm' parameter to be set!

however, according to smb.conf(5) the default security mode is user (security = user), ADS has to be set explicitly (security = ads). In the conf file you attached [1] I can't see this, so there is likely some other config file/option somewhere else. Could you please check?

This looks like a local configuration issue to me, and not a bug in Ubuntu. The right channel for this kins of questions are listed here:
