Thanks for filing this bug in Ubuntu.

I believe what's happening is similar, if not identical, to bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1635491 which we thought was resolved. I also filed an upstream bug with samba about it because it looks like some cases are not yet sorted out.

Please tell me, this machine where it happened, is this a laptop? Do you only have network access after you login, via wireless for example? Or is the network enabled before, like via an ethernet cable?

I have this issue on a desktop. It has both wifi and ethernet. It is always wired. Sometimes also wireless, problem happens no matter what.

Does your smb.conf (could you please attach it?) name a specific network or network interface?
