The Samba nmbd service indeed failed to start, but the attached logs don't indicate why.
Could you please attach all the files that start with "log" in the directory /var/log/samba?
Also, what is the current status of the samba services after you finished this upgrade:
sudo systemctl status nmbd.service smbd.service
