Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS
Release: 14.04

Samba Version: 2:4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.14.04.4

Samba appears to be working fine for us, but the log files in /var/log/samba are full of lines like:

[2017/03/06 15:37:55.927454, 1] ../source3/lib/dbwrap/dbwrap_watch.c:362(dbwrap_watch_record_stored)
  messaging_send to 5902 failed: NT_STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND

coming in occasional bursts of about five within a second.

Looking around the documentation for dbwrap I find that 5902 is supposed to be a pid that's registered an interest in some tdb file, and indeed:

dbwrap_tool --persistent passdb listwatchers

...does list 15116 and 5902. (Actually, you can put anything in there in place of passdb...) However, neither process exists, so it's not surprising that samba can't send messages to them. Can these `dead watchers' be removed? Is there a way to stop them hanging around in the first place?

Hello and thank you for filing this bug report. Someone will need to investigate where that message is coming from and why it's being sent for pids that no longer exist.
