I have checked this and the problem lies within the installation of the samba-common package. When upgrading it tries to remove /etc/dhcp3/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/ and we haven't installed that. So that is where it failed. I created the dir and then ran dpkg --configure -a and it finished the installation and all is working well now.
