Steps to reproduce:

Use OSX 10.9.2 and Excel 2011 with latest service pack
Install samba packes on Trusty Server
Create a writeable share in Samba
Mount the share in OSX
Copy an excel document to share
Try to edit it, see it's read-only
Close excel, see you can copy/delete/whatever the file

This could probably be fixed with this patch here: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10564

I'm going to try and compile custom version of Samba with the patch and verify that fixes the issue.
