Bug Description

I am running Ubuntu 12.10 and when I try to create a file share it gives me this error "'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: cannot convert name "Everyone" to a SID. The connection was refused. Maybe smbd is not running.". I have tried start samba and try restarting it and comes with the same error.

This sounds like the same symptom as bug 513427. Could you try editing /etc/smb/smb.conf and adding

usershare owner only = no

then restart samba and see if that solves the error. Please do let us know here whether it does.

Changed in samba (Ubuntu):

I'm getting this on Ubuntu 15.10.

Tried editing /etc/samba/smb.conf and restarting samba as suggested but no apparent change.
