Bug Description

On 9.04, the librxtx-java package (version 2.1.7r2-4) installs in a way / location that's not visible to Sun's JRE (sun-java5-bin version 1.5.0-18-1). That is, I need to manually add /usr/lib to my LD_LIBRARY_PATH and /usr/share/java/RXTXcomm.jar to my classpath in order to use RXTX. (I installed RXTX after the JRE.) Is it possible to install the library in a way that makes it automatically visible to the Sun JRE?

Thanks for the report. The RXTX library is installed in the correct location, per Debian policy [1]. The bug is actually in the JRE/JDKs for not looking in the right place. See bug #325506. I'm marking this bug a duplicate of that one.

This bug has been fixed in openjdk-6-jre :

I am using rxtx and openjdk-6-jre and it is fixed in lucid.
