Bug Description

/var/log/syslog reports: Aug 20 13:27:29 T61 rsyslogd-2039: Could no open output pipe '/dev/xconsole' [try http://www.rsyslog.com/e/2039 ]'
The package x11-apps is installed. /usr/bin/xconsole exists. Why does there not exist /dev/xconsole?
Why does there not exist a process rsyslogd?

U can fix this bug by editing the /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf file:

originally u will problably find at the end of this file:
 *.=notice;*.=warn |/dev/xconsole

        *.=notice;*.=warn |/dev/console

just change this to
        *.=notice;*.=warn |/dev/console

so that these messages get piped to an existing console..,
that's all

I am experiencing system freezes on my 12.10 machine, and the last log line before the forced reboot is "rsyslogd-2039: Could not open output pipe '/dev/xconsole' [try http://www.rsyslog.com/e/2039 ]".

The message "rsyslogd-2039: Could not open output pipe '/dev/xconsole' " also appears when using ubuntu 12.04.3.

However my machine is booting as usual (no freeze)

when changing

just change this to
        *.=notice;*.=warn |/dev/console

rsyslogd-2039: Could not open output pipe '/dev/console':: Permission denied

happens.
