Bug Description

On 12.04.5 64bit server running rsync pulling backups from a 14.04 64bit laptop dies with "inflate returned -3" when using the -z flag on a backup containing a large file (a VM image over 1G). Removing the -z flag works around the issue.

See the Debian bug:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=741628

affects: ubuntu → rsync (Ubuntu)

Just hit the same bug : got the same :"inflate returned -3" while rsync'ing an 8G VM disk .vdi file from a Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS server to a Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS one
Removed the -z flag sis the trick as well

I get the same problem between to boxes running 14.04.2. As explained in the Debian bug, you can remove the "-z" flag and add the "-C" flag to ssh in order to move compression from rsync to ssh.
