Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Add a song to the Play Queue by whatever means, and try to add it again. You cannot.

Imagine you *really* love this song and can't get enough of it - you want to hear it over and over again. But you cannot have more than one instance of any song in the play queue! :(

Confirmed. When adding a second song to the playlist the RhythmBox appears load the song. Upon completion of this the song is ignored and the music continues to play.

This bug is probably caused by the way RhythmBox works. Rather than loading and playing music straight from file it loads the song into the library then when you press play it looks in it's library instad of looking at the file. Since it would make no sence to have a song in the library twice, when you import the song again it simply treats it as the song you already have stored.

I am experiencing the same problem. Its very annoying that you cant add a song more than once to a queue. I hope that this gets fixed soon.

This problem does not affect Banshee (the new replacement for Rhythmbox in Natty).

I know this isn't a workaround but it might be a valid solution for some.

Comment from the developer:

"I'd suggest leaving this one alone. The data structure that stores
playlists (including the play queue) and all other track listings in
rhythmbox can't have the same track in two positions, and changing
this will have far-reaching consequences."

As such, I'm going to remove the paper cuts task since this is very difficult to fix.

This bug is still present in Rhythmbox 3.0.2-0ubuntu2. Banshee had only briefly been the default music player in Ubuntu, and Rhythmbox is the default again (in "main" for Ubuntu 14.04 while Banshee is in "universe"). I have been using Banshee for several years, but a new bug has cropped up which makes that package nearly unusable for me. This queuing problem is the main reason I have not been using Rhythmbox. I consider the software incomplete if it doesn't have this feature.
