I have looked into the rhythmbox source code.
This behavior is explicitly by design. We must talk with developers to understand their motives, and, may be, try to persuade to change this.

According to the: http://projects.gnome.org/rhythmbox/
you can send a mail to the rhythmbox-devel mailing list (<email address hidden>) and ask them about this issue.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. A new version of Rhythmbox is available on Maverick and we are wondering if this bug is still an issue for you with that version? Could you please test and comment back? Thanks in advance.

I don't think this is a duplicate, since it's about a different column with a different behaviour.

But if you think they both should be covered by one bug, then I'd need to update the name and description of the other bug, no?
