Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Just been testing the new libidevice support in Gnome 2.30 as part of the Lucid beta.

When I connect my iPod touch to my computer, I can see the device in Rhythmbox. I'm then able to drag music from my music library to the device. A progress bar appears and it seems that the song is transferred across (the song appears in Rhythmbox's window for the device). Unfortunately check the Music library on the device, or check in Rhythmbox after reconnecting the device, none of the transferred songs are shown.

One suggestion is that since this iPod touch has never had music synced from iTunes that the music database on the device has not been created yet. I plan to try syncing at least one song from iTunes and then trying the transfer again to see if this is the cause.

Unfortunately adding some files still didn't solve the problem. We can see that the songs are being uploaded, but I'm guessing the database isn't being updated (I can only see the 3 songs from iTunes in Rhythmbox and on the device).

Same here, syncing works fine when using iPod 3GS 16GB, but not on the iPod Touch 16GB. I also noticed Rhythmbox doesn't report the specs of the iPod Touch properly, see the attached screenshot. Guess I just wasted several Euro's upgrading from firmware 2.x to the latest 3.1.3, since I first thought that was the problem. Apparently not.

Of course, I meant iPhone 3GS 16GB which is working properly...

Same problem here. Ipod Touch 2nd Gen 16GB is being identified as a 1Gb Shuffle (although the available space is reported correctly).

Syncing appears to work, but nothing appears on the device at the end, so it appears to be syncing into a tree which isn't being read by the iPod Touch software, presumably because it's syncing as if it was a 1GB.

Maybe there's a workaround to force it to treat the device as an iPod touch? Rhythmbox syncing is currently unusable for this reason.

I have a similar problem. While uploading music to an iPhone 3G the new files are uploaded which can be seen in rhythmbox or any other music player, but not by the iPhone-music-player itself. Already present files also disappear from the iPhone-music-player.

This behaviour can be reproduced on iOS 3.x and iOS 4.x on my iPhone 3G.

This problem can also be reproduced by other people regarding to http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10222246#post10222246

The interesting thing is, that using banshee the sync works.

I am haveing a problem with removing apps from my Ipod touch 32 gb and can i put Itunes on my ibuntu system or is itunes strictly for windows and mac ?

@ellen craig: yes, unfortunately Apple refuses to create a Linux version of iTunes. Both Rhythmbox and Bansee are quite capable replacements of iTunes though. Removing apps from your iPod should be as simple as touch-and-holding the app until it starts 'shaking', and then touching the small 'x' in the corner of the app. Or at least, that's how it works on my first-gen 16GB iPod Touch (which has been without a job the moment I got my Android phone).
