Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I saw some similar bugs, but much of them were reported for Jaunty and for me it's Karmic specific.

Rhythmbox don't display covers through notify-osd when they don't fit a square ratio.

Of course, the standard cover format is ok but (I know I'm strange) I love having some home-made best-of albums with there home-made/ill-sized covers.

Rhythmbox is the default music-manager for Ubuntu, I think it's a shame that it is not even fully integrated with notify-osd.

Here is a screencast and 2 examples covers for you can reproduce it (I stole them from Marco Müller in bug #360228)

I don't think this should be a Rhythmbox bug. It's more of a notify-osd bug. Notify OSD should be scaling it automatically and displaying it. See bug #443979.

Well, I do think this is a rhythmbox bug but I'm confident that upstream will do nothing about it (as I understood it, they don't support notify-osd).
At least for now, we need a downstream patch.

I'm no expert, but after using Rhythmbox for 1 year, I've tried Banshee on Jaunty for more than one month and stopped having this problem altogether. So, I doubt it has anything to do with the notify-osd. Now I'm back to using good old RB once again, but I miss Banshee's neat behaviour on this issue when RB keeps failing to show my album covers. And I don't like to have to miss Banshee...

This issue actually was a bug in notify-osd (see https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/notify-osd/+bug/443979). It has been fixed in notify-osd 0.9.23. I also wrote a remark (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=594522#c3) in the upstream bug at GNOME's bugzilla to close it there.

Greetings,
I have Rhythmbox 0.12.6 (that is actually a great release) and notify-osd 0.9.24-ubuntu1 installed but I can not see ANY cover on the notification area. All covers are instead visible in Rhythmbox. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
