Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I have a couple of mp3 files with certain properties already set (Title, Artist, Song name). I want to change them (correct syntax errors, capital letters, etc.). Rhythmbox takes those changes, but after quitting it, and reopening it, those changes would not appear.

This is happening with only 21 files on my PC. I have tried other files, even in the same directory, and changes will remain. I could not find out what is different with those files. I tried changing permissions. I also checked codec used in files with and without this problem, and they are the same.

I attached two screenshots from Rhtymbox, one for files that changed its properties, and one with files that didn't, and one from Nautilus showing the files in both previous screenshots.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/rhythmbox
Package: rhythmbox 0.12.0-0ubuntu4
ProcEnviron:
 LANG=es_AR.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: rhythmbox
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-14-generic i686

Yes, I speak Spanish but please keep the conversation on this bug report
in English.

And no, what you need to do is:
1- Open a Terminal window.
2- Run rhythmbox as i said previously: rhythmbox --debug &>
rhythmbox-debug.txt
3- Reproduce the bug.
4- Close rhythmbox and attach that resulting log file to the report.

If you have any further questions you can contact me directly trough
email.

Best Regards,
pedro.

Pedro, I did the following:

1) Run rhythmbox --debug &> rhythmbox-debug1.txt
2) Change properties of one song
3) Close Rhythmbox
4) Run rhythmbox --debug &> rhythmbox-debug2.txt

As a side note, I noticed that when I open Rhythmbox for the second time, the properties appear to be recognized, but after 15-20 seconds, song appears again under the old properties in Artist and Album boxes.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. If you could test the current Ubuntu development version, this would help us a lot. If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs.

Maybe the following information helps. I had the same problem, but could relate it back to:

Case 1: files having two ID3V2.4 tags, which, as far as I can tell is definately non-standard. Closest I came to diagnosing, it seemed Rythmbox changed the one, but read the other, and so nothing got ever solved.

Case 2: Another one was a file that had a ID3 tag and and APE tag. In this case I am sure the APE tag was read, but nothing was written back (there was no error reported).

My rescue was MP3 Diags, installed from the Download center. It could fix case 1, but I couldn't make it delete the unwanted APE tag.

Hope this helps.
