Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When I open Rhytmbox the songs that I loaded from my music folder they get removed (not deleted) from the playlist. In the lower left corner where it shows that the program is reversing the loaded files and counts back down to 0. Has this problem been reported before. I have a fairly new PC based computer with plenty of RAM and I think a 3.4 gig processor. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does it is frustrating and a time waster. My Ubuntu version is 9.04

Thanks,

Dave Batho

Thank you for your bug report, is your library available when you start rhythmbox?

When I open the program the list is there and then begins to remove the
files by reversing the import process.

the reason for that is usually that the files listed are not available, ie on a disk not mounted or something similar

The files are there because sometimes it doesn't go through this process
and I can play the music.

Dave, where is your music located, on a local disk or some sort of USB disc/music player?

I also see this behaviour when I open rhythmbox and I have not mounted the network storage that the music is on, as Sebastian already mentioned. You say it sometimes doesn't do this, what is different between the times it does this and those times it doesn't, specifically, do you have any external drives/music players attached?

Hi Paul,

It did it most times. Presently I'm using Audacious as my player. My
music files are actually on partitioned main drive and I believe my the
application is on a second drive. My son-in-law installed the OS on my
computer, so I'm not sure of all the details.

I've found an upstream bug that covers the handling of removable sources for libraries, and the associated 'Missing files'. I too found it quite alarming when I first saw my library 'disappear' the first time I opened Rhythmbox without the library sourced mounted, so I think this could be handled better. It would be better if it could determine that the library source was not mounted etc and issue a warning so the media can be mounted by the user.

I have forwarded these comments upstream and You can track it and make comments at: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=313754
