Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When selecting the "Purchase Album" option in Rhythmbox, an error dialog is displayed which reads:-

Error
An error occurred while trying to purchase the album.
The error text is:
'module' object has no attribute 'split'

This was observed in UNR 9.04.

I'm reluctant to try different permutations, as this involves a credit card transaction, but for that very reason I think it should be investigated, and fed back to the plugin author as a matter of urgency, because apps shipped with Ubuntu which process credit card transactions should work... it gives a much worse impression when this type of process fails than others.

I looked through .xsession errors, there is nothing that appears to refer to this, although the file is quite large.

I cannot reproduce that tried the same and worked fine here, could you run rhythmbox as : rhythmbox --debug &> rhythmbox-debug.txt perform the operation to reproduce the bug and attach that resulting file to the report? please also attach the ~/.xsession-errors file to the report after reproduced the issue, thanks.

See attachment, for xsession_errors, and debug output, I trimmed the debug output to just the lines after I started playing a track (before selecting purchase), until I OK'd the error, and quit rhythmbox. The shutdown messages are very large, so I trimmed messages after rhythmbox started to quit.

Note, I also changed the cardholder details in the debug output... although from what I can see it didn't output anything it should not have done.

From what I can see, there isn't anything terribly significan't in these logs, unless it's significant by it's absence compared to your working version, are you testing on on a full version of Ubuntu, as this is the netbook remix. I will test on a full release when I get a machine I can do it on..

A member of ubuntu-fr.org forums is having the same bug, I asked him to attach rythmbox-debug and xsession-errors as well, this should be done soon.

The issue is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people writting the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)

In 9.10, I got this message when trying to make a purchase:

An error occurred while trying to purchase the album.
The Magnatune server returned:
Magnatune unfortunately can no longer process credit card purchases from 3rd party applications. We are working on an alternative. Your card has not been charged!

So Magnatune issue? otherwise it could be related to bug https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=533727 where magnatune new accounts hasn't been implemented yet.

Raf and Pedro is partly right.

Magnatune has stopped processing credit cards due to online fraud experienced by their credit card payment processor (see http://blogs.magnatune.com/buckman/2009/06/visa-no-more.html where it is clearly stated that in-app Magnatune purchasing in Rhythmbox would be affected)

While this bug is confirmed (that is it is valid), I believe it should be changed to won't fix. If (and when) upstream provides a new plugin for the new Magnatune membership types this issue will be resolved.

Let's change the description a bit and track the upstream report, makes more sense rather than just closing the report, thanks all.
