Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When rhythmbox rips compilation CDs each track is stored under its respective artist, which results in lots of directories with a single song. This is messy and hard to manage.

I think you are right this is an issue, however, this will be something that ubuntu developers have no control over. I would recommend you go upstream and find the bugtracker that rhythmbox uses (bugzilla possibly) and report a bug there. If you do report back here about the existence of the new bug.

Im not sure what to mark this bug. I thought there was an assignment that specified it was an upstream bug somehow.

Thanks for reporting and helping everyone improve ubuntu. Feel free to report any new bugs you come across.

What happens if you change the "Library Structure" item in the configuration? I believe by default when ripping CD's, it stores in the hierarchy Artist/Album, but you can change that by going to Edit>Preferences, then the 'Music' tab. You could change it to store by album.

The issue here really is that Rhythmbox has no way to tell if the CD it's ripping is an album or a mix without the user telling it.

Hi Elias, generally what you should do when triaging bugs like this, is to go ahead and upstream it for the reporter, and link the bug report here (via Also affects project -> "rhythmbox"), and then request the reporter subscribe to the upstream bug report.

Since this sounds like missing functionality rather than incorrectly working functionality, I'm moving this to wishlist.
