thanks for the report, I've tried editing WMA files here and it works fine, is this still an issue for you? may you send us a rhythmbox log to see if there's something there? please run rhythmbox as: rhythmbox --debug &> rhythmbox-debug.txt and attach it to the report, thanks.

Just experienced this in Maverick.
First rename seems to work then the second does not (doing it quickly after). All music is on an external drive.
rhythmbox-debug attached --hopefully it's okay, I don't know how to properly close rhythmbox now with the sound menu.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Oneiric Ocelot. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

I am runnig Ubuntu 12.10 and it still does not seem to work. It is minor as I prefer flac anyway, but even more annoying is that also the 'Genre' tag seems not to be read. Genre is 'Unknown' for all wma files, which causes quite a mess in the ordering.
Genre is properly shown in e.g Entagged
