Thank you for taking your time to file this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Can you state why you want to burn the playlist as a data file?

Rhythmbox has a feature to create Audio CDs from a playlist, but the playlist by itself is not written into the Audio CD. There are few upstream bugs about including the songs in the CD as a metadata (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=378097) but none is reported on storing the playlist itself. If am not wrong, the playlist is available as XML file in ~/.gnome2/rhythmbox/.

Am not sure whether this is a bug, as this feature doesn't exist in upstream as well and no bug filed on it. May be added as a wishlist in the upstream itself?

I'm sorry if I was not clear about what I was trying to do. In iTunes under Windows, you can burn a playlist of songs as their original file formats, aac, mp3, flac, wav or whatever without converting to CD audio playable files if for example you want to archive music on a cd or DVD. If I have 650mb of let's say 100 mp3's, I'm looking to add these files as is from the playlist to a cd. Does this help? Thanks.

Shouldn't this be marked as a wishlist as the feature is requested to be made available in rhythmbox?

This should be forwarded upstream; its a reasonable feature request as far as I can tell

An easy workaround till Rhythmbox gets that functionality:

1. Select all the files in the playlist you want to burn (using Ctrl+A inside Rhythmbox).
2. Create a new data CD/DVD project in Brasero Disc Burner (found in applications > sound & video).
3. Drag and drop the selected files from Rhythmbox into the Brasero project.
4. Choose a suitable name for the CD.
5. Click on Burn.

All Done! :)

This Nikhil mentioned works but I can't maintain the order of the songs in the playlist and that is bad. I hope that rhythmbox developers will finally support this feature. It's very very very useful.
