Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

It seems that a command option to open Rhythmbox and start playing right away is lacking. There is rhythmbox-client --play but that will only make an already existing RB play, NOT open a new one.

I can think of several situations where it would be useful. The Alarm Clock Applet (http://joh.deworks.net/blog/?page_id=58), for example, acts as a wake up alarm and offers the possibility to launch a specific app for that purpose. It can launch RB, but it cannot make it start playing so it becomes useless to wake anyone up.

Thanks for your report, Does rhythmbox /path/to/the/file works this way?

Yes it does. However, it makes little sense (in this situation) to have an app to manage your music collection if you can only make it launch one file and not ANY file in your collection. You might as well use Totem.
