Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

If I drag 200 songs to an ipod which has space for only 10 of them, I am presented with 190 pop up windows informing me that I do not have enough space.

One would suffice! ;)

I realize that this is similar to Bug #144292 but that was closed due to some conflated issue with Xorg. Xorg did not crash for me.

Whatever Xorg's behavior this is definitely a bug with Rhythmbox's behavior.

This bug still has "unconfirmed" status upstream. WTF? It was first reported in 2006. Here I was trying to demonstrate to my son how well the open source model works :-(

Really? Wow I must just be having all the luck at the moment. (Though
I find it really hard to believe that no other ipod users have the issue).

Is there some way I can help then? It seems like it should be a
no-brainer. Just bail out as soon as the first copy fails? Or just
give a single status report at the end of a "bulk" transaction?

Another problem We've been getting with rhythmbox is jumbling of album
art. I can't find a bug in rhythmbox's bugzilla on that either - even
though it seems to be a well know issue with libgpod and is discussed on
various blogs. Perhaps users aren't always filing bugs as you might
expect...

a really low number of users if you prefer, that bug got no duplicate in years and there is lot of ipod users there

what do you call "jumbling"? is your ipod running out of space that the copy doesn't work?

There are two independent issues:

1. system does not cope if you copy over more than the ipod can store.
In this case it seems there are too many error messages generated and
the system hangs - typically we shutdown by holding the power button -
its that bad. (It's not a super fast machine but it has 1.5G of memory
and copes with most things.)

2. album art is mixed up on the ipod even after a successful copy

I've submitted 2 as a separate bug report

Please feel free to contact for more specific information.

Thanks for the correspondence.

Thank you for opening a bug about the artwork, I can't confirm that there the artwork copied matches the one displayed in rhythmbox there

I've run into this bug a number of times also, but it's happened for me due to permission errors rather than my ipod running out of space.

Often when I plug in in my ipod, it gets mounted as root:root instead of my desktop user and if I forget about that and try to copy stuff to the ipod, I get a storm of error popups. That's pretty painful when you're trying to copy more than 500 files, as I've done more than once.
